Who we are
This policy explains what personal data Manu collects and how it is used, under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). The data fiduciary is the operator of Manu: [legal entity name and contact — to be completed before beta].
What we collect
Only what the service needs:
- Your phone number or email, and your name if you sign in with Google.
- Your chats with Manu — the messages you send and the replies you receive.
- Your plan and usage counts (how many Everyday and Pro messages you have used).
- The UPI transaction reference you enter when you pay. We never see your bank details or UPI PIN.
- Basic technical logs (device type, errors) that keep the service working.
Why we use it
We process this data only to:
- Sign you in and run your account.
- Generate Manu’s replies to your messages.
- Manage your plan, confirm payments, and apply usage limits.
- Keep the service safe and fix problems.
Your consent
The legal basis for this processing is the consent you give when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account — the service stops, but the choice is always yours.
AI processing and where your data lives
To generate replies, your chats are sent to AI model providers under zero-data-retention terms: they may not store your chats and may not use them to train their models. Your data is processed only on servers in India, the United States, or the European Economic Area — never in any country restricted by the Government of India.
Who we share it with
Only the processors needed to run Manu: hosting providers, AI model providers (under the zero-retention terms above), and messaging providers that deliver OTPs. We never sell your data and show no third-party ads. We disclose data to authorities only when Indian law requires it.
How long we keep it
Account and chat data stay while your account is active. Delete your account and we erase them — except payment records that Indian tax and accounting law requires us to keep, and only for as long as it requires.
Your rights under the DPDP Act
You can, at any time:
- Ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or complete it.
- Ask us to erase it, except what the law requires us to keep.
- Withdraw your consent.
- Nominate a person to exercise these rights for you if you are unable to.
Complaints
Write to our grievance officer at [name and email — to be completed before beta]. We will respond within the time the DPDP Act and its rules require. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Age
Manu’s beta is for adults — you must be 18 or older. We do not knowingly process children’s data; if that ever changes, we will follow the DPDP Act’s rules on verifiable parental consent first.
Security
Your data travels encrypted, access within the team is limited to what the work needs, and we collect the minimum the service can run on. No system is perfectly secure — if a breach affects your data, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
Cookies and device storage
Manu stores on your device only what sign-in and your preferences need: your session, language, and theme. There are no advertising trackers.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will tell you in the app before the change applies, and this page will always show the current wording.
